• Here are some shots from one of the refining melts that I have done. Essentially what I am now doing is cleaning up and melting scrap aluminum and making ingots to use as the raw material when I get ready to build the Gingery Lathe. I have been trying to choose scrap that are cast aluminum parts to begin with, although I have also melted forged pistons. I have stayed away from extruded, flat-sheet and other non-castable types of alloys. Here is the furnace fired up, looking in through the exhaust port.
